An arrest has been in a 29-year-long Bay Area cold case, but the motive remains a mystery.
On Dec. 2, 1994, Terrie Ladwig, 28, was beaten and strangled to death in the apartment she shared with her husband on Adelaide Street in Concord. Ladwig was a transgender woman who lived with her husband, Navy Petty Officer Steven Ladwig.
"We are not certain of the motive," Concord police Lt. Sean Donnelly told SFGATE on Wednesday."There was no sign of forced entry, and we presume that the victim let him into the apartment." Steven Ladwig told reporters that his wife was planning a gender-affirming procedure at the time of her death. The couple married in Reno in the summer prior to her death.
