Another dog that was at the scene but not destroyed by police was also taken to a vet for emergency treatment.
The incident took place in Sowood, Halifax on November 6 shortly after 6pm and police raced to the scene following reports of an attack.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Attempts to restrain the dog were unsuccessful and it was destroyed by armed officers who attended the scene.
