Police in Phoenix, Arizona responded to a call early Saturday that lead to the discovery of a deceased newborn on the street.
Officers arrived to the area of 7th Avenue and Jefferson Street to find the baby in the road, where they pronounced the newborn dead at the scene. They have not revealed the sex of the baby.
The remains were taken to the medical examiner for an autopsy while an investigation takes place. The Phoenix Police Department is soliciting tips surrounding the death.There is a large homeless population that occupy the area where the baby was found, and it's subsequently referred to as"The Zone" according to the Unsheltered Count Map. Out of the over 5,000 unsheltered people in Maricopa County, 3,096 are located in Phoenix as of a January count.
