Andrés Cano. the Arizona House Democratic leader, will leave when the session is over to study at the Harvard Kennedy School.
The leader of the House Democrats announced Saturday he will leave the Legislature when the current session ends to pursue a master's degree at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Rep. Andrés Cano, D-Tucson, called his admission to the school the"chance of a lifetime" and said it will deepen his ability to continue serving the public, particularly in Arizona. He was accepted into the Kennedy School's mid-career master in public administration program, which begins in July. Cano is in his third term and last fall was elected by his House peers as leader of the Democratic caucus. He made his announcement on Twitter minutes after notifying his caucus and Democratic staffers of the move. He said the state budget is"near completion," prompting him to give notice of his pending move.
Dear family: I've been accepted to the Harvard Kennedy School. Once the state budget is complete, I'll be stepping down from the legislature & the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund to prepare for my next chapter in public service. Thank you for the opportunity to represent our shared values.
