The National Weather Service is forecasting more than 170 potential record-setting cold high temperatures Monday to Wednesday.
Published 6:00 AM EST Nov 9, 2019A record-breaking cold front is expected to sweep across the U.S. from Sunday into Tuesday, with freezing temperatures stretching as far south as parts of the Gulf Coast.
High temperatures on Monday may be stuck in the teens and 20s in the Midwest and around the Great Lakes. It could be the coldest Veterans Day on record in cities such as Chicago and Minneapolis, according to the Weather Channel.By Tuesday, record cold is possible in the Northeast, Ohio Valley and portions of the South. Highs may get only into the 30s as far south as Alabama.
In Leavenworth County, Kansas, which claims to have the oldest Veterans Day observance in the nation, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 32 degrees on Monday. This year will be the county's 100th annual parade, and organizers say the show will go on despite the cold. In Chicago, where the city has planned a Monday morning Veterans Day Ceremony at Soldier Field, temperatures are expected reach a high of 31 degrees, and forecasters are predicting one inch of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
