If Apple had not executed a 7 for 1 stock split in June 2014 the shares would have closed over $2,000 on Thursday.
. The last of the four splits was on June 9, 2014, when it split 7 for 1. The stock closed at $655.90 or $93.70 split-adjusted that day.
Apple and Microsoft are the two U.S. companies with market caps over $1 trillion with Apple just under $1.3 trillion and Microsoft just over $1.2 trillion. If Apple had not split its shares they would be higher than Alphabet/Google’s and Amazon’s. While it is not unusual for analysts to not respond to large short-term price moves, otherwise they would be changing price targets frequently having so many below the current price is unusual. There could be a slew of updates in the next week or two when analysts preview the quarter, but a large number may wait until earnings are announced in about a month so that they don’t have to change it again.
