Ive's new firm will count Apple as one of its clients.: Apple’s chief design officer Jony Ive, who first conceptualized the overall design and aesthetic of Apple products, including the iPhone and the iMac, is leaving the company after 30 years to start his own design firm, AppleIve is leaving at the end of the year to start his own design firm, LoveFrom. Apple will be one of the new firm’s first clients.
Apple did not say who will be the company’s next chief design officer. Instead, Evans Hankey, vice president of industrial design, and Alan Dye, vice president of human interface design, will report to Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer CEO Tim Cook said in a statement that Apple will continue working directly with Ive on exclusive projects.
“Jony is a singular figure in the design world and his role in Apple’s revival cannot be overstated, from 1998’s groundbreaking iMac to the iPhone and the unprecedented ambition of Apple Park, where recently he has been putting so much of his energy and care,” Cook said. Ive was considered one of the most important executives at Apple, and since becoming the company’s design chief in 1996, one of the most famous industrial designers in the world. He is responsible for the design of Apple’s hardware, software, packaging and the company’s “spaceship”
