Sadly, it doesn’t work like that with AirPods, though the fact that AirPods 3 are expected to look more like the Pro model gives a boost to the idea that the refreshed Pro headphones could come sooner rather than later. And while Apple says it doesn’t mind cannibalizing its own sales, it will want to keep AirPods Pro a big seller, and a new version of the top-flight headphones is the keenest way to do that. Anyway, Gurman has confirmed it, saying: “I don’t think there will be an AirPods Pro hardware refresh until 2022.”Sure, it didn’t seem very likely, but this seems like a definitive statement from a respected analyst.
On the plus side, it only makes the imminent release of AirPods 3 all the more exciting—and they’ll be cheaper, too.
