OAKLAND — A fire at an Uptown district apartment building Tuesday afternoon left one resident with minor injuries and several residents displaced, authorities said.
The fire erupted about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday in a second floor apartment at a three-story building in the 400 block of 26th Street near Broadway. Fire officials said the building has seven apartments. All the residents were able to get out on their own before firefighters got to the scene.About 30 firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire under control at 12:43 p.m., authorities said.
The apartment where the fire originated was heavily damaged; other units were also damaged. Officials said one resident sustained minor injuries but declined treatment at the scene. The resident of the apartment where the fire started and residents of five other apartments were displaced and were being aided by the Red Cross. The exact number of residents impacted was not immediately available.
