Expert Joanna Hardy told the woman it never happens to her after learning the guest had paid between £1 and £4 each for the necklace and brooches
An Antiques Roadshow guest was "blown away" when she learned the true value of some pieces of jewellery she had picked up from car book sales for just a few pounds. The woman brought a number of pieces to Alexandra Gardens in Cardiff to be inspected by expert Joanna Hardy.
The guest brought several gold and silver brooches, along with a gold necklace which had a string of green stones set in it. When asked what had made her buy the necklace the guest explained: 'Someone had just put it down, the sun was shining and it just came at me.' Moving on to a round gold brooch with a shiny stone in the middle, which had cost just £2, Joanna said: 'Well this is a diamond in 18-carat gold.' Another brooch had cost "Two or three pounds" with Joanna telling the guest: "You've got three beautiful diamonds there and it's in 18-carat gold."
Joanna then moved on to the brooch with sapphires and diamonds, explaining that the blue flowers were made in around 1900 and were once in fact shirt studs which someone had used to create the brooch. Adding "they're absolutely exquisit, she valued the item at £3,000-£4,000.
