While the Supreme Court struck down race-conscious admissions policies at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, it exempted military schools. A footnote in the high court’s June opinion exempted military academies and acknowledged that the United States government contended that “race-based admissions programs further compelling interests at our Nation’s military academies.
