As Scotland made their way home from Spain there was a definite feeling of what might have been in the air. But Angus Gunn prefers to concentrate on what is still to come.
There’s a friendly against France to contend with on Tuesday but that clash in Lille is insignificant in comparison to what lies ahead in Tbilisi next month when Clarke’s men get another crack at getting over the line – assuming Spain haven’t helped them to do so in Norway. “We wanted to go to Spain and finish the job off. But what we’ve done already in the group has taken the pressure off ourselves a little bit. We’ve given ourselves a good platform to qualify. For most of the game we did really well. We’re not going to get too down about the result. It’s annoying to lose our 100 per cent record but we have done an unbelievable job so far to get into this position.”
“I thought we did alright straight after it to sort of compose ourselves but it was always going to give them a boost. The crowd was up after it, it was almost as if they had scored a goal when the referee blew his whistle. “It’s relatively new to football, so there are going to be further changes in the future and that should be one of them. We missed out on one on Thursday but maybe in the next game we’ll benefit from VAR. It’s one of those things.”
