Press tracked down a long ball from the wing from Savannah McCaskill and before the ball ran over the line and out, Press slid to trap the ball, then regained composure enough to cross it, sending it off of Current defender Taylor Leach and into the goal. “I think we were really hungry after the last game we played at home to go out and put that right,” Angel City FC coach Freya Coombe said. “They were really tuned in for this game. We rode the initial minutes where I thought Kansas did a great job of putting us under pressure. I think we’ve matured there in terms of being able to ride that pressure and that storm.”
Angel City nearly had a second goal in the 78th minute but Vanessa Gilles’ header was kept out by the quick feet and hands of Kansas City goalkeeper Adriana Franch.
