"Being part of something brand new," Whitworth told USA TODAY Sports in the bowels of Bank of America Stadium on Nov. 10 as matchup between the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons started. "I was like, ‘Man, this just screams me,’”
Media presented itself as a"cool" way to remain involved – research teams, track trends and understand the game"but not necessarily have a full-time job." Whitworth met with Fox and CBS to gauge interest, and specific roles were not discussed. That the Prime Video crew travels to its games on a weekly basis and does its shows on-site meant a lot to Whitworth.
"The more we talked, it was like, ‘If he’s going to do something on TV, we don’t want him going somewhere else. We’ll figure something out for him,’" Stacy told USA TODAY Sports. "So we did the deal." Whitworth doesn't think of it as a promotion, necessarily, since he never even entertained the idea of media until his retirement. In fact, he says he"ran away" from media while playing.
