The mayor’s office announced it will request that the Assembly vote to begin the process of renaming the port as the “Don Young Port of Alaska.”

Monday that Bronson will request that the Assembly vote to convene a citizen naming panel and start the official process of renaming the port as the “Don Young Port of Alaska.”

A naming panel consists of four Anchorage residents, two appointed by the mayor and two by the Assembly’s chair, according to city code. That panel reviews the proposed name or names, holds a public hearing to identify any additional possible names, and then makes an official recommendation on renaming to the Assembly, according to code. The body then takes a vote.

Today I’m announcing that we are initiating the process with the Assembly for approval of a Citizen Naming Panel to officially rename the “Port of Alaska” as the “Don Young Port of Alaska” in remembrance of the late Congressman.
