An ode to nature–even when you can't go outside–from DriesVanNoten's spring 2015 show.
. During the spring 2015 season, a time when fashion shows were transforming into monumental spectacles, Van Noten did the most with a simple concept. Inspired by John Everett Millais’s paintingthe design created a bohemian collection that was equal parts Summer of Love and Pre-Raphaelite fantasy.
I remember how excited my colleagues were to receive the small moss particles—in those early days of social media, those terrarium organisms were some of the most shared on Instagram—and how Van Noten’s show, held in a dark space, felt so transportive without any massive gimmicks or tricks. It was indoors, yes, but through the clothing and the set, Van Noten evoked all the wondrous beauty of nature.
At the end of the show, all the models came out in a flock, gently sitting and lying down on Kehayoglou’s carpet, letting the day pass them by. “It was really touching to see how much the models appreciated their ‘sit-in’ and the reaction of our guests was also very reaffirming; many were moved by such a simple gesture,” Van Noten told me at the time.
