But those 787 deliveries resumed in August and the company has hired nearly 2,000 pilots this year and plans to hire another 2,000 next year, CEO Robert Isom said in October.

From DFW, American will operate its largest long-haul schedule next summer since 2019, peaking at 589 flights in July and August to 15 destinations in South America, Europe and Asia, according to data from Cirium. That’s still down from the peak of 775 during July of 2019, but American still hasn’t scheduled the return of major routes such as DFW to Shanghai, Hong Kong or Munich.the number of passengers flying internationally out of DFW has actually been higher since April than it was in 2019.

American is also preliminarily scheduled to restart service into Beijing, flying into the $11.4 billion Daxing International Airport that opened in 2019, but COVID-19 policies in China are still among the strictest in the world, and American hasn’t operated a flight into the world’s most populous country since February 2020.
