Amazon will temporarily shut down all warehouses in France because the company is unsure it can comply with a ruling from a French court banning all shipments of non-essential goods amid the coronavirus shutdown.... [+]Amazon said Wednesday it will temporarily close all fulfillment centers in France and suspend all deliveries from those warehouses.. Employees will be paid their full salary through a state partial unemployment program.
In a statement, Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman said that since the company’s warehouse operations are “complex and varied,” Amazon risks mistakenly shipping a prohibited item. “With the punitive 1M euro per incident fines imposed by the court, the risk of accidentally shipping non-essential items was too high,” she said.
