Nelson Elementary School fourth-grader Claire Knape used a token she received as a reward for taking her friend to the school nurse to get a book from the school's book-vending machine.An Alvin ISD elementary school is all “booked” to reinforce positive student behavior after recently receiving an unusual type of vending machine through a $1,000 grant from the district’s education foundation.
Students pick the book of their choice from the machine. Popular titles include"Elephant and Piggy" by Mo Willems and"The Bad Guys" by Aaron Blabey.In the fourth and fifth grades, students are intrigued by historical fiction, Herbert said.
