The Alpine Alpenglow is a radical hydrogen-powered concept that could safeguard the future of combustion and hints at upcoming Alpine design:

But Rossi said:"Hydrogen has the green merit of being very compatible with electrification, because the parallel path to hydrogen as a fuel is hydrogen as a fuel cell, which produces electricity."That’s good because the end-to-end industrial path for hydrogen will be compatible with electrification, so we believe that could be one way forward."

Notably, Alpine says this concept is"as lightweight as the rest of the brand's cars", suggesting that even with its two 700-bar cylindrical hydrogen storage tanks running either side of the driver, it weighs in the region of 1000-1200kg – around the same as the A110. Extensive use of recycled carbonfibre in its construction will have played a large role in keeping weight down, and will do too on future cars.

F1 Japanese GP News and Notes: New Rule on Rain Race Points Hurts Some, Helps OthersF1 Japanese GP News and Notes: New Rule on Rain Race Points Hurts Some, Helps OthersTeams up and down the pit lane expected the reduced distance of only 28 laps, rather than the usual 53, to result in reduced points. But after last year’s Belgian Grand Prix debacle, the re-writing of the regulations was such that a race that is suspended, but can be resumed, gets full points once it exceeds three laps. If the race doesn't resume or get a minimum of three laps in after a resumption, the points are as follows: • For races in which two laps are completed, but 25% distance is not reached, only the top five finishers will be given points in the structure of 6, 4, 3, 2, 1.• For races 25% to 50% distance races, points will be given to the top nine finishers in the form 13, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.• For races between 50% but under 75%, points will be issued to the top 10 but in the order of 19, 14, 12, 9, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1. Fortunately, for some teams, the Japan race was restarted and more than three laps were recorded after the restart. That was great news for Alpine and Aston Martin. After its double DNF in Singapore, Alpine is now back ahead of McLaren by 13 points, after Esteban Ocon scored a superb fourth, and Fernando Alonso took seventh. Aston Martin equaled its best race finish of 2022 with Vettel in sixth and so netted eight points. That now lifts it just seven points behind Alfa Romeo in the battle for sixth in the championship. Alfa Romeo has scored just one point in the last nine events. It also lifts Aston Martin 11 clear of Haas and AlphaTauri, who now appear destined to scrap over eighth in the standings.
