A lawsuit filed in a California federal court in June 2020 claims that Google Chrome’s “Incognito Mode” is not as private as people think.
... [+]The complaint alleges that Google still collects duplicate GET request records, IP addresses of user’s connection to the internet, user IDs, geolocations, cookies and other fingerprint data in order to continue to collect user data while in private browsing mode.
Google has disputed the claims, saying it clearly discloses “Incognito Mode’s” functionality when a user opens up a new private browsing tab or window and that a user’s online activity can still be visible to the websites they visit. Google asked the court toWhen a user opens a new Incognito Mode window or tab in the Chrome browser, Google says the browser won’t save browsing history, cookies and site data, as well as information entered on forms.
Google spokesman José Castañeda told Bloomberg that the company has cooperated with the plaintiff’s “countless requests” during the evidence gathering phase of the trial. He said the request for Pichai to testify is “unwarranted and overreaching.”
