Alleged killers had 'chocolate milkshake' poured onto hands to remove blood after Lee Dawson stabbed to death, court hears
he did not lay a finger on anyone as he tried to break up the violence. But he said as he was walking away he looked across the road and saw Mr Dawson lying on his back in a star shape, with the handle of the knife protruding from his chest.
Kerry-Ann Metcalf, 39, said she did not see the violence which unfolded in the early hours of June 17 as she was last to arrive on the scene. But she said as she approached, one of the defendants, who she knew as her neighbour, Benjamin Bibby, rolled up his balaclava and told him he "needed to get his shank back" and winked at her, before walking away.
Metcalf, Cross and Brown all told the court that after seeing Mr Dawson on the ground they panicked and left the scene. CCTV showed them in an area next to the Landmark Church, where Cross and Brown were seen looking into bins. Both men said they were looking for something to wash their hands with, as they thought they may have blood on them, given how close they had been to the violence.
