A series of weather warnings have been issued across the UK as the country braces for snow to come from the north.
Meanwhile, some rural communities could become cut off, according to the Met Office, while power cuts may result in services such as mobile phone coverage becoming unavailable for a short time. Similarly, Northern Ireland will have a yellow warning for snow from 7am on Thursday to 2pm on Friday. Many parts of the Midlands and South of England have similarly been hit by a yellow warning for ice and snow which came into effect from today and will remain in place until 7am on Thursday. Areas affected such as Birmingham, Norwich, Cardiff, and Oxford will see a higher risk of injury from slips and falls on snow-covered or icy surfaces.
Chief meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said: "Snow, ice and low temperatures are the main themes of this week’s forecast, with the UK under an Arctic maritime air mass. Snow could lead to some travel disruption, with a chance some rural communities in the north could be cut off.
