Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer-winning World War II novel gets a turgid Netflix adaptation from director Shawn Levy and writer Steven Knight.
To judge by “All the Light We Cannot See,” it’s no wonder the Nazis lost World War II. Ranting. Railing. Raging. Filling the air with spittle as plentiful as the Allied bombs raining down along the English Channel. They can’t even find the one angelic blind girl with a radio transmitter sending out coded messages. TheThe series certainly is.
She, alone in Saint-Malo, is awaiting the imminent arrival of American troops; he, a reluctant warrior but gifted radio operator, is being brow-beaten into finding her: Marie-Laure, by reading seemingly random bits of literature during her nightly broadcast, is sending very specific instructions to the Resistance. As has probably already become clear, one needs to approach this four-part series as a fairy tale, or surrender unconditionally. This copy is for your personal, non-commercial use only.
