The newest addition to the DCEU is a mix of fun moments and clever ideas, but it falls into the trap of being a bit too predictable. The thing is, there’s nothing in this movie that you haven’t seen before, and that’s a bit of a letdown since the cast — including Xolo Maridueña from Cobra Kai — is really talented. But the film leans a bit too much on those worn-out jokes, and that kind of takes away from its ability to be taken seriously.
At this point, the state of the DCEU lies in James Gunn’s capable hands. I only hope he’s taking notes from failures like Blue Beetle and Fury of the Gods, and figures out a way to return the comic book franchise back to its former glory.Likewise, Black Adam isn’t an awful movie.
