There hasn’t been a new Alien movie since 2017, but Fede Álvarez’s upcoming film has now just wrapped filming, meaning the drought is nearly over.

The Alien franchise drought is slowly approaching its end, with Fede Álvarez's new movie having now wrapped filming. After first getting its start back in 1979, the Alien franchise consists of six films in total, not including several crossovers with the Predator franchise. Now, original director Ridley Scott has handed the reins to Álvarez for a new film, with the newcomer best known for Don't Breathe and 2013's Evil Dead reboot.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Many questions remain about Álvarez's new Alien movie, but, according to Collider, the film has now wrapped principal photography, which brings it one step closer to hitting movie theater screens. With filming now complete, work will turn to post-production and what is likely a large number of visual effects sequences.

What To Expect From Fede Álvarez's New Alien Movie Unfortunately, there are more questions than answers at this point when it comes to the new Alien movie. The film is rumored to be called Alien: Romulus, but, officially, the project remains untitled. While the title may not yet be known for sure, the movie's cast is, with Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu all confirmed to be starring.

Plot details also haven't been released, but the new Alien movie has been described as a standalone story. This means that audiences shouldn't expect a continuation of the story from prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. As a standalone project, the upcoming movie also won't include Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, with the actor also recently confirming that her time in the franchise is now over.

While the movie won't feature any familiar faces in terms of actors, a behind-the-scenes image from the Alien movie's production shared in April teases that facehuggers will appear, in addition to a familiar spaceship design. The new movie doesn't yet have an age rating, but Álvarez's previous films also suggest that the movie could be a gory affair, perhaps even exceeding the violence present in Scott's entries.
