The midfielder opens up on his reunion with Marco Silva at Craven Cottage and why he will always be fond of Everton

“He loved to express,” says Iwobi. “That was the main thing he said to me: Don’t be fearful when you’re on the pitch. Go and enjoy it the same way he did. He loves to do tricks and flicks, I don’t do as much as him!Iwobi’s ability to affect the play in his team’s attacking third of the pitch is why Fulham head coach Marco Silva was keen on a reunion this summer.
“ He said the same thing he did to get me from Arsenal to Everton. ‘I believe in your abilities, your qualities’, and he said it was a plus that I played in numerous positions at Everton. The main thing is that he knows I have the ability to get goals and assists. So I just have to remain calm and do that. I was able to do it , man; come, man!’. He did tell me it was a group of lads who work hard and are very honest. All of that has been true and they have made me feel welcome.
It has been a difficult summer at Everton, amid financial uncertainty and a takeover. Did all that play a part in his departure? “There was a lot of talks behind closed doors — there are things that I’m not allowed to say — but I feel like it was a decision from the club and from me that the best solution was to leave,” he says. “I hope they do well, I have a lot of respect for them and left on good terms.
