The price match schemes don't always work in shoppers' favour
An increase in the cost one shopping essential at budget retailer Aldi has had a knock-on effect for shoppers across the board. While the price match scheme often works in the favour of customers at Tesco and Sainsbury's, that's not always the case.
While Sainsbury's is the same penny for penny, Tesco's 80-packs have risen from 65p to 70p each, meaning the same quantity has gone from £1.30 to £1.40.This week's rises, which have also seen Tesco increase the price of a pack of two chicken breasts from £2.40 to £2.50, means that Asda is now the third cheapest retailer for our basket of essentials, behind Lidl and Aldi.
Last month the cost reached a new high, with the bill at each one - Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's - topping £11 for the first time.
