The former England and Newcastle legend can't wait to see both Scotland and England at Euro 2024.
Alan Shearer has put the Scotland knives away and reckons 'unbelievable' Steve Clarke deserves to stake his place at Euro 2024.
The former England and Newcastle United legend hasn't been shy of a sly dig at the Scots in recent months as we surprised many on our trail to Germany next year. But now that our spot amongst the world's best is confirmed in the summer finals, Shearer has put the Auld Enemy fued to one side and reckons it benefits both nations to be playing at such a major tournament at the same time.
But the 53-year-old believes the Tartan Army shouldn't take the harsh 4-1 defeat to France on Tuesday too much to heart, and that an 'unbelievable' coach in Clarke will only lead the nation to way more success past the finals next year. He told the Press and Journal: “He has been doing an unbelievable job. He also has John Carver working alongside him who I also worked with at Newcastle. We are good friends. We play at the same golf club and we were at Newcastle together.
“They are building something with Scotland and they seem to have developed a really good team spirit. I know the result against France went against them but they have qualified for next summer’s Euros which is a great achievement. “I am sure they are looking forward to the tournament. It always adds to the tournament when Scotland and England are there because it is a derby. The tournament is always better if England and Scotland are both there.”
