“My mom was telling me stories about when I was a little kid, I would say, ‘I’m gonna be on that show someday!’' Huntsville-based singer MeMe B. Jones says. 'And I still get chills anytime I think about it.”

The tattoo reads, “Dreama,” the name of her 5-year-old daughter.

“Anytime I’m getting ready to perform, I always look down at it,” says MeMe B. Jones, a singer based in Huntsville. “And I know that I’m doing this for my baby.”On Sept. 21, she performed as part of “Showtime at the Apollo,” the talent competition that grew out of the Harlem, N.Y. venue’s long running Amateur Night, which helped launch the careers of stars like James Brown, D’Angelo, Ella Fitzgerald, The Jackson 5, Gladys Night, Ronnie Spector, Jimi Hendrix and Billie Holliday.

Theater passion is real and lives inside these two and the actors that choose to perform in local theater.
