Alabama lawmaker David Wheeler of Vestavia Hills has died.
State Rep. David Wheeler, R-Vestavia Hills. State Rep. David Wheeler, a Republican from Vestavia Hills, died this morning, the House of Representatives announced.
“The people of District 47 and all of Alabama have lost a devoted servant and I’ve lost a good friend,” House Speaker Mac McCutcheon said in a statement. “It was rare that David came to the microphone to speak on legislation, but when he did his words carried weight. I’ll miss him and so will the members of the House.”
Wheeler had been a member of the Board of Trustees at the University of Montevallo since 2008. According toWheeler graduated from Montevallo in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He began his career with Alabama Power that year. Wheeler retired from Alabama Power in 2001. At that time he was the company’s director of accounting, finance and regulatory services, and served as the primary liaison with the Alabama Public Service Commission.House Majority Leader Nathaniel Ledbetter, R-Rainsville, released a statement about Wheeler’s death on behalf of the House Republican Caucus.
