A state law enforcement officer arrested last week on a sexual misconduct charge died Wednesday.
Scotty Ballard, a 51-year-old Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officer from Andalusia, was arrested one week ago by Geneva police.Ballard died in Covington County, where he lived. Authorities have not said how he died. Sheriff’s officials responded to the scene, but efforts to reach them for comment have been unsuccessful.“On behalf of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, I would like to personally extend my deepest and sincerest condolences to SAS Ballard’s family, friends, and those within our own Agency, as well as officers throughout the law enforcement community who knew him well,’’ ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said.
“With over 26 years of law enforcement service, SAS Ballard began his career with the Andalusia Police Department and ultimately joined state law enforcement in 2004 as a Special Agent with the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, until ABC’s enforcement division was transferred to ALEA under consolidation in 2015. This incredibly difficult loss reminds us that we need to lift each other up, especially in the most challenging times.
