Akron’s Independence Day festivities are scheduled from June 30 through July 4 and include the Rib, White and Blue Festival with nightly entertainment at Lock 3 and neighborhood fireworks displays. AKRON, Ohio – Akron’s Independence Day celebrations include the Rib, White and Blue Festival and fireworks displays in three locations.The popular Rib, White and Blue Festival is scheduled from Friday, June 30 to Tuesday, July 4 atin downtown Akron. The festival is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
National rib vendors will compete for the following awards at the fest: Best Ribs, Best Sauce and People’s Choice. Local vendors include: After Hours BBQ, PigFoot BBQ, Grill Masters, Stray Dog Trucks and Homemade Delites. Festival admission is free. No outside food or drinks are allowed, with the exception of Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area beverages.
Festival entertainment will be held at 7 p.m. nightly on the Lock 3 Cleveland Clinic Stage located on West Bowery Street, next to the Akron Civic Theatre. The lineup:Saturday, July 1: Straight On-Heart Tribute with Angie Haze ProjectMonday, July 3: Hotel California – The Original Eagles Tribute Band with The TwistOffsParking is available in the city’s State Street and Cascade parking decks. Parking is free from 6 p.m. on June 30 through 12 a.m. on Monday July 3.
The city will also have neighborhood fireworks displays, which will be launched at 9:45 p.m. from the Patterson Park Sports Complex and the Akron Executive Airport. 97.5 FM WONE will broadcast live updates about the launches and play a patriotic soundtrack during the program., an email newsletter delivered at 5:30 a.m. Wednesdays.
