Preston's only surviving 18th century windmill could soon be converted to house bedsits quirky Airbnb lets orunder the latest plan to redevelop it.
Two plans are mooted for the structure - one which would see it used as a house of multiple occupation and the other for short term holiday lets. The building is Grade II listed and is the only surviving one of its kind in the city. It is though the sails were removed in the 1880s and, with its flour grinding days over, it was put to a whole range of different uses.These include an overflow prison, a piano workshop, garage, cinema, and a merchant’s storage warehouse.
Sustainability ideas include adding solar panels to the roof of the annexe and, in a not to the building's past, adding small wind turbines to the flat roof coping. It would also have new LED lighting, more efficient heating systems with improved controls.
