Republican Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth is calling for a change of leadership at the Alabama Department of Transportation for what he says are misplaced priorities for major transportation projects.
. “Who doesn’t want to widen 65? The truth is, there are transportation infrastructure needs all over this state. Yes, we are addressing them quicker than ever, primarily because I championed the Rebuild Alabama Act, which by the way, has already led to needed 65 and other interstate improvements.
“Since first raising the issue of traffic jams and bottlenecks on I-65, I am stopped multiple times a day by Alabamians who share my frustrations and want to tell me their stories,” Ainsworth said in the email sent to. “Tourists who come through our state are discouraged from returning, trucks are unable to transport goods in a timely manner and our residents are unable to go about their daily lives all because I-65 is on long parking lot.
It’s unclear how much a massive project like that would cost. The Alabama State Senate voted in May on a He praised Ivey for focusing on the U.S. 43 project, a design-build project that he hopes is constructed within the next five years or wraps up shortly after the governor’s tenure in office concludes in January 2027. The project, once completed, will provide a four-lane corridor that links Mobile to Tuscaloosa and toward Muscle Shoals. Officials throughout West Alabama praise the project for its economic impacts, including Mercedes-Benz in Tuscaloosa.
