The AHSAA 67th State Wrestling Championship began on Thursday and continues through Saturday. Arab took a slim 3.5-point lead over two-time defending state champion Gardendale after the first day of competition in the AHSAA 67th State Wrestling Championships at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center.
The teams completed two championship and two consolation rounds on Thursday. On Friday, the championships continue with Class 7A and Class 1A/4A divisions joining the action. The competition begins at 9 a.m. Cory Land of McAdory improved to 54-0 on the season with two quick pins in the 138-pound division to move into Friday’s semifinals. Land, looking for his fifth state title, holds the AHSAA’s second-longest win streak in the 67-year history with 205 wins in a row. His last defeat came in 2018 as an eighth-grader.
