Wilson Bailey, Sr., St. John'sRohan Takkar, Soph., The Village SchoolTo perform well at the state meet, Boyd knew he had to have a fairly high streak of winning races earlier in the season. He accomplished just that.
Boyd competed in nine races this season and won five of them. He feels like there was some dip in performance at some of the mid-season races since he hadn’t full reached his peak yet. Boyd started the season at The Woodlands’ Friday Night Lights and took third place with a time of 12:32. The second meet of the year was at Seven Lakes, where he took first with a time of 15:35. He got on a roll from there and won at College Park with a time of 15:30. The confidence continued to build with a third-place finish at the Hoka One/One Elite meet with a time of 14:33. The Nike South Invitational, another high-level event, saw him finish sixth with a time of 15:20.
After Nike South, Andrepont said Boyd was able to get a week of rest from racing. The focus then turned to the championship season. Boyd and his teammates set the district championship as a year-long goal.
