“We were all a little bit excited to see Texas on our side of the tournament,” Stanford guard Haley Jones said Saturday. “It adds an extra chip on the shoulder going into the game. That night in mid November at Maples Pavilion was supposed to be a celebratory one. It was a chance for fans to see the national championship trophy, for the Cardinal team to be honored with a ring ceremony at home.
“It did appear to me that, ‘Wow, like we are doing pretty good against the defending national champs,” said Harmon, who is so young her team nickname is “Fetus.” The Big 12 freshman of the year is a talented addition to a deep team that made an Elite Eight run last year.“It’s always so weird watching those games from the beginning of the season, because it feels like the season has moved so quickly,” Jones said. “That was the beginning of November.
