Richmond Heights police responded to a call for a welfare check and, after a standoff at a Stevenson Street home, arrested a man who allegedly shot a woman in the shoulder.
At about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 5100 block of Stevenson to perform a welfare check at a residence. Officers were met outside the house by a woman who had on her person dried blood. The woman told officers that her friend, Giorgiy Shepov, had shot her in the shoulder. The woman said she was shot the night before while inside the house.
Richmond Heights police, with the assistance of Highland Heights officers, set up a perimeter around the house and stayed on the scene until the arrival of the Suburban Police Anti-Crime Network SWAT team and the SPAN Crisis Negotiation Team. Police advised residents to avoid the area. After negotiations failed, the SPAN SWAT team entered the house and took Shepov into custody at about 9:30 p.m. Shepov was transported to Hillcrest Hospital and, when medically cleared, was taken to the Cuyahoga County jail.
