San Francisco Giants prospect David Villar didn’t wait long to make his presence known.
Taken in the 11th round of the 2018 draft, Villar has made stops at five different minor league levels and was not considered one of theheading into the 2022 season. The infielder exceeded those expectations, slugging 21 home runs and 15 doubles in just 66 games in Triple-A before being called up Monday.
Even after being promoted, the baseball gods seemed against Villar. His said his first flight to Phoenix was canceled — for holiday weekend travelers — and by the time he caught another flight he had only managed to get a couple hours of sleep.
