San Antonio's annual celebration typically generates more than 65 tons of trash. It takes hundreds of city workers to clean it all up.
Lugging along eight trash bags filled with empty bottles and cans, Dee Cardenas weaved her way through the Friday morning crowd enjoying the Battle of Flowers parade in downtown San Antonio. She and her family had been along the parade route since 7 a.m., eating, drinking and filling up bag after bag with trash.
As the annual celebration’s parades and parties engulf San Antonio, one of the inevitable byproducts is trash. Lots and lots of trash.Even as rain heads our way, Fiesta's NIOSA will go on tonight Crews from both the city’s Solid Waste Department and Public Works Department clean during all hours of the day and night during Fiesta-related events like the Battle of Flowers Parade and the Flambeau Parade.
