“Nothing can stop us. We continue our way,” said 18-year-old Somaya Faruqi, the captain of the Afghan female robotics team that became a symbol of progress in the country.

They were flown out of Kabul to Doha with the assistance of the Qatari government last Tuesday.

Somaya said fixing things makes her feel free and powerful and taking part in international competitions has given her an opportunity to show the world what Afghan girls can do, and that Afghanistan is not just about never-ending wars. One of the latest projects for the Afghan girls robotics team is a 5-foot-tall robot that uses ultraviolet light to disinfect surfaces.Even as refugees, the team is still planning to enter a robotics competition in September. At the moment, it is working on a 5-foot-tall robot that uses ultraviolet light to remotely sweep rooms and destroy viruses.
