Turner said it’s “shameful in this day and age that equal access to the ballot is still under attack in this country.” Some states — most notably Florida, Georgia, and Texas — have enacted laws to tighten voting restrictions in the two-plus years since the polarizing 2020 presidential election. Republicans who lead those states insist the goal is to reduce the risk of fraud in elections and ensure voting is secure and accessible., and these laws create more obstacles to vote and discriminate against voters of color.
“New Jersey can be fairer, and we can be better,” state Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, D-Mercer, a sponsor, said at the rally.Spokespeople for Murphy and Scutari did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
