expanded its winter weather advisory early Friday to include four more counties where freezing rain is a threat— Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Somerset. Forecasters are calling for a light glaze of ice during the advisory for those counties from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.Bergen, Essex, eastern Passaic:

Mixed precipitation, less than inch of snow and ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch are in the forecast as the advisory lasts until 7 p.m.Freezing rain and less than a tenth of an inch of ice are likely. The advisory starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 7 p.m.Western Passaic: Mixed precipitation is expected along with up to an inch of snow and ice accumulations of two-to three-tenths of an inch. Power outages and tree damage are also possible and travel could be “impossible” for a time. The advisory runs until 7 p.m.: Freezing rain and one-to three-tenths of an inch are in the forecast. Falling tree limbs cold cause power outages. The advisory ends at 4 p.m.Up to a tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate.

There’s a wide disparity in temperatures in New Jersey as of 6 a.m. with readings around the freeing mark in the northwest part of the state and the mercury in the mid to upper 50s in much of South Jersey and along the Jersey Shore. Counties not under a winter weather advisory will see mainly rain during the day Friday. Rain ends this evening as temps fall into the teens and low 20. A dry, chilly weekend is on tap with sunny skies both days. Temps will be in the mid-20s to low-30s on Saturday and the low-to mid-30s on Sunday.
