The homes in Clayton-Le-Moors, dubbed the 'Clayton Triangle' have been a matter of contention for the residents of the local area, with many expressing their anger over the homes in regards to the environmental impact and increase in traffic levels. The new homes, comprising of 53 apartments and 74 houses will border the Liverpool-Leeds canal on Whalley Road, located on a six-acre brownfield site.
"To give permission for 127 dwellings seems shambolic and shows a real lack of concern for the welfare of the local residents and those passing through the area every day." One resident has expressed their dismay over the area being dubbed a 'brownfield site', stating that the trees which back on to the development would be affected.
"People are dying earlier due to air quality and Hyndburn Borough Council have chosen to put more houses in the middle of one of the worst air quality zones in the county. Most people I speak to who live here have someone either close to them, or they themselves have the health conditions linked to these pollutants.
Further disappointment from Richard and the residents' 'Clayton Triangle' group focus on the issue of increased traffic to the area. He added: "Anyone who has travelled through Clayton-Le-Moors can vouch for the traffic, it is the first thing that people mention when you say you live here! Rob Watson, director at Watson Homes, said: “The Clayton-le-Moors development will bring significant numbers of new and affordable housing to Hyndburn, meetings need across the borough. The development will be contributing to local regeneration and transforming disused, brownfield land that has previously been used as an industrial site.
