It's been a haze, and Champion said he is receiving new information daily. The chief made the statement about a gun during a town hall with students Thursday, but university officials corrected it on Monday with an official report that the bystander said they saw a knife. Students spent all last week heightening their calls for answers from the UH Police Department.

Ithier and Champion were rehearsing a scene outside, which a witness misidentified as an assault.
The officer holstered his weapon when he realized what was happening, and a later review determined that he acted appropriately and according to procedure, the statement read. Champion’s mother, a police officer, reviewed the incident and “agreed with the actions taken by UHPD,” it continued. In the end, there was no crime committed and no threat to the safety of campus, according to the statement.
