The ship remains moored off the island of St. Lucia. No one is allowed to leave it
Three hundred passengers have been quarantined on a cruise ship in the Caribbean after a passenger was diagnosed with the measles. The ship, which remains moored off the island of St. Lucia, has been identified as the 440-foot Freewinds, the Associated Press reported, which appears to be owned by the Church of Scientology.
The religious organization didn’t respond to a MarketWatch request for comment at press time, but it describes the Freewinds on its site as a Caribbean-based vessel that Scientologists board as “the pinnacle of a deeply spiritual journey.” Dr. Merlene Fredericks-James, the island’s chief medical officer, told the AP on Thursday that the ship is still in port and no one has been allowed to leave it. “One infected person can easily infect others,” she said.Indeed, moviegoers who caught “Avengers: Endgame” in a California AMC theater last week may also have been exposed to the highly contagious virus. A 20-something woman who has now been diagnosed with measles attended a midnight screening of the Marvel movie last Thursday.

Measles was considered eradicated in 2000, but as UNICEF reported last week, widening pockets of unvaccinated children across the globe have given the contagious varies the chance to spread.
