A small Scottish startup may now beat Virgin Orbit in the battle to put the first satellite into space from UK soil and is on course for a launch this year 🚀 🔴 BawdenTom and DavidParsley50

“This is not a death blow to the UK strategy, it just emphasises that we need to persevere. It will go again, from Cornwall, at some point, there’s no question. But we’ve got to build the satellites again and get ready for launching.”, the organisation set up by the Government to foster innovation in the space industry. It would have helped with the operations of two of the satellites on the Virgin Orbit launch if that had been successful.at the University of Bradford.

And he adds that the issue was “a statistical element” which could happen anywhere. Other experts agree with his basic assertion that there’s no reason why the launch couldn’t work in the UK. “I’d say they were 90 to 95 per cent of the way there. We were all breathing a sigh of relief, we thought it was there. It was that last little bit, that final kick necessary to get into circularised orbit and get it into the nice shape of orbit,” he said.

Scientists who were not involved in the Virgin Orbit project were confident the UK can still go on to become a leading player in the space industry, despite the setback.Space Scotland “As to how big a setback this failed launch will be for the UK’s ambitions to become a major player in the space industry, it’s likely to only be a blip.”
