“It's unfortunate that the current Archbishop has chosen divisiveness over inclusion, but I know that the students and alumni of Brebeuf feel a greater admiration for our school for being committed to justice and standing with the LGBTQ community.”
As the school and Archdiocese work out the dispute, many current and former Brebeuf students are glad the school didn’t follow Archbishop Charles Thompson’s order to fire the teacher because of their same sex marriage.
“My freshmen year, I came out to my family because of the support I found at Brebeuf,” says Nina. “It's unfortunate that the current Archbishop has chosen divisiveness over inclusion, but I know that the students and alumni of Brebeuf feel a greater admiration for our school for being committed to justice and standing with the LGBTQ community.”
“I’ve grown big time [since attending Brebeuf],” he says. “I’ve had opportunities to really connect with people in Brebeuf’s LGBTQ community. And the teacher in question — this person is smart and capable in their subject ... I really feel like this teacher was a friend of mine.”
