One night after their reverse boycott, it seems only likelier that A’s fans will soon be saying goodbye. The A’s move to Las Vegas has cleared what appeared its biggest hurdle: approval of the Nevada Legislature. Details:
that would build the team an estimated $1.5 billion park in Las Vegas, with about $380 million coming from taxpayers.
That the A’s will leave Oakland isn’t a done deal yet. The steps that remain, however, appear more like formalities than those that preceded them.Gov. Joe Lombardo now has to sign the bill, which is expected. The A’s then have a process to go through with the 29 other owners and the commissioner’s office, and that starts with submitting a formal relocation application.
More information on the league’s process should become available quickly: commissioner Rob Manfred has a press conference scheduled for Thursday, as he normally does at the end of owners meetings.
